Number of Reckless and Threat-Posing Actions of Passengers on the Increase
Since the beginning of the year, 7 passengers have already been reported to make a joke at the time of registration and security screening at Vilnius International Airport (VIA) that they carried explosives and other dangerous items. The total number of such incidents last year accounted for 11. Even if all such threat reports proved to be false, such a conduct is not tolerated at the airport and is deemed as actual threat.
Ryanair opens second airport in Lithuania
Ryanair, Europe’s favourite low cost airline announced today that as of May 2011 Ryanair, will be operating from a second airport in Lithuania when the country’s capital airport will join the Ryanair network. Following the success of its operations in Kaunas, Ryanair is introducing five new routes to/from Vilnius in the coming summer schedule: Barcelona (Girona), Dublin, London (Stansted), Milan (Bergamo) as well as Rome (Ciampino). Whereas London (Stansted) will operate daily, Dublin, Milan and Rome are scheduled three times per week. Barcelona (Girona) will be operated twice per week adding a total of 18 weekly flights to Vilnius airport.
Baltic Aviation Academy Starts Boeing 747 Type Rating Training
Aviation training centre Baltic Aviation Academy (Lithuania) expanded its capability list by adding Boeing 747-400 type rating courses. Baltic Aviation Academy became the first approved type rating training organization (TRTO) in the Baltic region to start training program for Boeing 747 type of aircraft. The approval certificate for B747-400 type training was issued by the Lithuanian Civil Aviation Administration.
